Adjunct Professor of Design
Melissa Beck is a sculpture and installation artist interested in reinventing our understanding and interaction with everyday objects. She often uses materials such as furniture, clothing, Q-tips, band-aids and even cake and bread, often inviting the viewer to touch or taste. She holds a BFA in Studio Art from Point Loma Nazarene University and an MFA in Sculpture from Pratt Institute. Melissa has had various roles in the art-world including curating exhibitions, creating retail displays, attending artist residencies and showing her work at places such as the San Diego Art Institute, Bread and Salt, SoHo20 Gallery, Friend of the Artist publication, Vanguard Culture and recently on a National Geographic segment about San Diego. Melissa also has collaborated with faith-based institutions such as Redeemer Presbyterian Church, Spark and Echo Arts and W83 Ministry Center on the intersection of art and faith. Melissa is an adjunct at Concordia University teaching Sculpture and art teacher at Pacifica Christian High School in Santa Monica.
